Beartooth Mountains

These were a couple of my more favorite photos from the backpacking trip in the Beartooth Mountains last year.

Moose on the loose

This picture was taken on August 25, 2013 in the Absorkee/Beartooth Mountains. It was taken by Tyler Black on his iPhone 4. This cow moose was walking up the trail we were hiking on for a while and then turned and went across the water. I thought, even for an iPhone, this was a really cool picture. Although not the best quality, it captures the essence of the wilderness and the moose is pretty clear and easy to see.

Jal Mahal Picture

Picture of pigeons flying around Jal Mahal, India
This photograph was taken in Jal Mahal, India in the early morning. It was taken by Mahesh Balasubramanian. It was noted as the photo of the day on National Geographic's website. I thought it was really cool capturing the pigeons in flight and also having the scenery and landscape in the background. I also think that the haze/fog with it being the early morning really adds to the picture, as well as the calmness in the water. It makes it seem like a calm and soothing place in the morning. This picture also captures the clarity of the birds in flight without taking away from the rest of the landscape. I'm guessing the photographer used a higher shutter speed such as 1/500- 1/800 sec. I'm also assuming that this picture was taken facing northward. It appears that the sun may be partly shining through on the right side of the picture, being the sunrise. It creates a great reflection off the water, especially with it being so still. http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/photography/photo-of-the-day/

camera review: nikon coolpix l810

This camera is very easy to use. This makes it better for myself and other amateurs who do not have the greatest track record with technology. It has a good zoom, at 26x optical, that allows you to focus in on wildlife from a distance without having to disturb anything. Although, the image quality does deteriorate with the higher ISO settings. The color seems to run or blur in with the image resulting in a very noisy and depreciated photograph. I purchased this camera a little over a year ago for a backpacking trip. It has preformed well enough for me, taking clear pictures of nature and wildlife, which is what I have used it for the most.
